Through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Cobourg Police, Reliability Screening Solutions Inc. can provide Criminal Background Checks of the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database. At Reliability Screening Solutions, Inc., we can submit a check on your behalf from within or outside of Canada.
The Benefits of an Online CPIC Canadian Criminal Background Check
The Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) enables background checks online without the need to use fingerprints as the most reliable search mechanism. An online CPIC check includes the search for any individuals that might have been convicted and are related or matching the applicant’s personal data such as name and birth date. It’s a straightforward process that we are pleased to provide.
There are two types of online CPIC check services: Premium and Standard. The Standard check only includes the search for convictions; while the Premium check searches for any additional non-conviction data and withdrawn or pending charges aside from the search for convictions. This makes the entire process of CPIC checks less expensive and much faster & easier for our clients.

In short, the CPIC check uses your name and date of birth to see whether you have a criminal record; whereas the RCMP Certified Criminal Background Check uses fingerprints.
The RCMP is more thorough and effective, and in some cases (e.g. immigration) is the required method. The CPIC check, however, is faster, and it is acceptable in many cases. If you are not sure which you require, we would be happy to discuss this further with you.
CPIC stands for the Canadian Police Information Centre database. Reliability Screening has partnered with the Cobourg Police service to have access to the CPIC database. We use your name and date of birth to check against the database for a match.
The CPIC check is a relatively fast process and, especially for those applying from outside Canada who do not require a fingerprint-based background check, provides a smooth experience.
It is possible that your name and date of birth could be shared by someone else – especially true for common names. If that individual has a criminal record, the CPIC check will come back with an unacceptable match. It doesn’t mean that you have a criminal record; however in such cases, we would then have to run a fingerprint-based background check – the RCMP Certified Criminal Background Check – which could delay your case.
Also as the CPIC is not a fingerprint-based criminal background check, it is not accepted for most immigration or travel visa authorities, nor is it the preferred method for many employment screenings. If you are not sure which is right, contact us to find out more.
